Most of the times when I try to call someone, I have to search for their phone number in my Outlook contacts folder or try to find a prior email with their number somewhere in it. And once I finally find a number, there is always the possibility that it is outdated, no longer in service, etc. But I have learned to live with that and accept that amount of hassle. What is a real hassle, at least for me, is calling an international number, because my work starts after I find the number:
First, I have to find a phone that will let me make the call. Lots of mobile phones in the US, for example, do not let you dial international numbers by default, and a lot of companies don’t let their employees make international calls without going through an elaborate approval process, obtaining a special code, etc., etc.
Second, I need to figure out the proper format for dialing that number. You know, the good old finding the country code / city code stuff, which I still have trouble with.
Third, I have to consider how much the call will cost me. It typically costs a fortune to make an international call on a mobile, as most of you know (and if you don’t, just ask the rest of us before you try!).
So, with all the advances in communications technology, do we really have to go through all this trouble to just talk to someone? Why can’t calling be as easy as sending an email or IM message or pinging someone on MySpace? Wouldn’t it be great if I could just pick up the phone and dial a local number to reach anyone, no matter where they are? Wouldn’t it be great also if that local number always stayed the same, even if they changed phones, plans, cities, countries? It would be, and that is one of the reasons jaxtr is so exciting, because with jaxtr I get to connect with an international friend by dialing a US number! All I need to do is click on my friend’s jaxtr link or widget, and voila, I get a US number to reach them at. Hint to all friends out there: get jaxtr now!

If I don't use a microphone, can I then get the jaxtr # and call that person directly?
Also, your email function does not work on this blog.
Excellent innovation, and good catch with the addition of Konstantin. I'll jaxtring him shortly.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the encouraging words and the comments. Here is some quick responses:
Mike, as for communicating with your friends worldwide, the question is whether you and your friends would like the freedom of talking to each other from ANYWHERE? Skype is good and free as long as both you and your friends are behind a computer, have broadband connections, have a headset or laptop with a microphone, etc. With jaxtr, you and your friends can talk from any phone by dialing each other's domestic numbers, so you get lots of mobility.
Pat, we are checking out the issue. Thanks for reporting it.
Brian, absolutely! That is one of the main reasons for using jaxtr.
Thanks again!

I am just new on this Jaxtr and i have a lot of family in India.
so if i understand this right.. this is totally free calls and the person i am calling do not have be in front of computer. they just have to sign up for jaxtr once?
I am so happy about this invention. It's really great. Unfortunately only 15 minuts of talk time is give for my friend who signed up in India. Is there way to increase the time for people in India?
Is there any possibility for people in india to get a local dialing number insted of U.S number?
John
I have free minutes on my mobile phone contract. If i want to call India from U.K will i get charged at all or will my free minutes get used up?
Secondly, if the person is using a pay as you go phone abroad, do they get charged for receiving incoming calls from UK.
Correct me if i am wrong, Jaxtr give 16min free calls to India, what happens after i have used over 16mins using my free mins on my mobile or landline? Do i still get charged??
On the other hand, if someone calls me from India or another country who doesnt have free mins, do they charged after the first 16 odd free jaxtr mins, and do i get charged to receive incoming calls on my mobile or landline?
Please let me know. Many thanks.
Sach P.
Hi Sach, hopefully I can clear up your questions. First off, jaxtr does NOT take the place of your ordinary phone provider. It is simply a service that enables you to use your existing phone plan more cheaply, as it gives you a way to call internationally without dialing international phone numbers (so you are not charged by your provider hefty long-distance fees).
You are still using mobile phone minutes when calling with jaxtr, just as you do with every other call you make from your mobile phone. If you are calling someone and they run out of jax in their account, we WILL NOT charge them, but rather, all calls will be diverted straight to the jaxtr user's voicemail instead of being forwarded to their phone.
To sum things up, jaxtr does not take the place of your existing phone service provider. Any charges your normally incur dialing the number provided by jaxtr will still be relevant.
Thanks, happy talking :)
